Mission

The Universal & The Local Church

Everyone who believes the gospel and is baptized into Jesus Christ is a member of the one true church of God. This one true church, which we call the universal church, is the whole people of God, made up of all believers around the world.  The mission of the universal church is to display the great goodness of God.

This mission, however, can only be carried out in particular times and places through the work of local churches. The members at Light of the Nations desire to display the riches of God’s grace to a world in need: through the worship we offer, through the faith we confess, through the love we demonstrate toward one another, through the service we provide to the community, and through the gospel we proclaim to the lost.

Our Family of Churches

We are a congregation of The Orthodox Presbyterian Church. In 2019, Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Vandalia planted our church in downtown Dayton. Over the years, we grew to the point where we are now our own congregation with distinct identity and oversight. We continue to enjoy fellowship and accountability from the many other churches in our larger region. Our pastor is Tyler Detrick, and joining him in in this task are elders Nathan Jones and Andrew Wegener. Paul Downs, Dave Kootstra, and Steve Oroszi are our deacons, leading the church in works of mercy. Pastor Brad Peppo joins the leaders above as an evangelist focused on outreach to Dayton and the larger Miami Valley region.
